Here Comes the Pain Again

Creeping fascism, AKA neo-socialism, (or is it the old socialism, just without dressing it in the warm, fuzzy, Trotskyist PR spin,) is coming down the pike directly from the White House. The Obama Administration’s brilliant nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the SCOTUS is just the tip of the iceberg. I say brilliant, because President Obama’s nothing if not a great lawyer, and tactically there’s no way for the Republican Party to oppose Sotomayor’s appointment without self-destructing. With Hispanic voters, and their extreme sensitivities to being slighted by a system that has marginalized them for generations, set to become a majority bloc within just a few years–if they have not already–the Republican Party can only commit public seppuku by virulently opposing her nomination. However, that’s not to say that she shouldn’t be questioned for a variety of legitimate reasons: it appears that she may be just a garden-variety ethnocentrist, if not a former racialist–her La Raza history and her now well-known comments about hispanic-female vs. white-male judicial qualifications herald themselves–and she’s shaping up as a potentially dangerous opponent of the individual-rights reading of the Second Amendment, as well as a blatant judicial activist with her own agenda. However, she’s going to be confirmed without a doubt, and it would be wise during her confirmation process to ask a few of the right questions now to firm up the record–to compel a future recusal perhaps–and get out of the way without too many self-inflicted wounds.

This is where President Obama’s logistical craftiness is displayed in full splendor: as the famous Spanish Jesuit conceptist, Baltasar Gracian, said: “A wise man gets more use from his enemies than a fool from his friends.” It might be very refreshing after the abject stupidity that we’ve become inured to after eight “nucular” Bush-Cheney years, but that doesn’t make it any less dangerous in its potential to disrupt even further the remnants of the two-party system. If the Republican Party is to efficaciously survive, it needs to learn quickly and vigorously, from sane and skilled politicians. Republicans need to make full use of modern-media social networks as skillfully as the Democrats have done since the onset of the last Presidential Election Campaign, and take rational arguments on positions, and an informative tone, directly to their constituency. They need to stop allowing the lunatic demagogue Rush Limbaugh, and the utterly discountable, politically neanderthal Michael Steele to present themselves as the face of the modern Republican Party–or quite frankly they’re done for generations to come, if not for good.

Even more disturbing, however, and more indicative of where the Chicago cabal wants to take the country–their much touted “change,” I guess in its real form–is the recent rollout of a new anti-First Amendment campaign that’s beginning to show its ugly head. We can’t afford to ignore the man behind the curtain, or we will find ourselves, indeed, in OZ. According to Mark Tapscott, Editorial Page Editor of The Washington Examiner, who calls it “the camel’s nose peeking under the tent,” and confirmed upon review of the White House Blog, Norm Eisen, Special Counsel to the President on Ethics and Government Reform, has begun rolling out the Obama Administration’s attacks on the First Amendment rights of its critics:

First, we will expand the restriction on oral communications to cover all persons, not just federally registered lobbyists. For the first time, we will reach contacts not only by registered lobbyists but also by unregistered ones, as well as anyone else exerting influence on the process. We concluded this was necessary under the unique circumstances of the stimulus program.

“Second, we will focus the restriction on oral communications to target the scenario where concerns about merit-based decision-making are greatest –after competitive grant applications are submitted and before awards are made. Once such applications are on file, the competition should be strictly on the merits. To that end, comments (unless initiated by an agency official) must be in writing and will be posted on the Internet for every American to see.

“Third, we will continue to require immediate internet disclosure of all other communications with registered lobbyists. If registered lobbyists have conversations or meetings before an application is filed, a form must be completed and posted to each agency’s website documenting the contact.”

The key passage is the reference to expanding regulation from registered lobbyists to “anyone else exerting influence on the process. We concluded this was necessary under the unique circumstances of the stimulus program.” (added emphasis mine.)

What Obama is doing, clearly, is taking a page from the playbook of one of his presidential heroes and role models, Abraham Lincoln, who famously suspended many individual liberties–including habeas corpus–in pursuit of his hard-core, big government, pro-war agenda, jailing many hundreds of editors of anti-war (or even pro-peace) northern newspapers on a mid-19th-century Guantanamo-like island in New York harbor. That Lincoln’s legend, and the messianic status bestowed upon him after his murder, has obscured the fact that he was a raging fascist in the truest sense of the definition: as an economic system, fascism is socialism with a capitalist veneer. And make no mistake about it, the troubling signs of a reemergence of a Lincoln-esque agenda are becoming like a toothache: nagging and incapable of being ignored.
